5 Things You'll Love About Firefox 3

Firefox 3 Beta 2 shows some nifty new tools we can expect in Mozilla's next browser.

New versions of favorite applications are always a little tricky; you want to keep up with the times without fixing what ain't broke. With that in mind, I took a look at the newly released Firefox 3 Beta 2 to see what we can look forward to when the final version ships in 2008.
Although the basic look of the browser hasn't changed, there are actually quite a few new features coming. (For a complete list, you can check out Mozilla's release notes.)
[Improved in Beta 2!] Firefox 3 Beta 2 includes approximately 900 improvements over the previous beta, including fixes for stability, performance, memory usage, platform enhancements and user interface improvements. Many of these improvements were based on community feedback from the previous beta.
Some of the new features in Firefox 3 are not immediately obvious -- at least, not to the casual user. Among other things, Mozilla is incorporating new graphics- and text-rendering architectures in its browser layout engine (Gecko 1.9) to offer rendering improvements in CSS and SVG; adding a number of security features, including malware protection and version checks of its add-ons; and off-line support for suitably coded Web applications.
Other new features -- some of which are listed here -- are more visible to end users, such as the menu bar that now appears asking if you want to save a just-entered password. Indeed, I've wondered if the browser will become top-heavy with built-in features that were already available as add-ons.

MySQL Datatype & Length/Values

Here is explanation of what is meant by display width, taken directly from the source:

The display width does not constrain the range of values that can be stored in the column, nor the number of digits that are displayed for values having a width exceeding that specified for the column. For example, a column specified as SMALLINT(3) has the usual SMALLINT range of -32768 to 32767, and values outside the range allowed by three characters are displayed using more than three characters.

So, if display width doesn’t constrain the range of values our numeric type can hold, why to use it at all? On MySQL forum, there was a post suggesting that by using the display width, we set mental reminder to ourselves on how big the field should be. Me personally, find this quite logical, this is some kind of mental tooltip which pops up when you review your schema.

Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone

Another day has gone, I'm still all alone
How could this be you're not here with me
You never said goodbye, someone tell me why
Did you have to go and leave my world so cold?

Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says

That you are not alone, for I am here with you
Though you're far away, I am here to stay
But you are not alone, for I am here with you
Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart
But you are not alone

'Lone, 'lone, why, 'lone

Just the other night, I thought I heard you cry
Asking me to come and hold you in my arms
I can hear your prayers, your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand then forever can begin

Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says

That you are not alone, for I am here with you
Though you're far away, I am here to stay
But you are not alone, for I am here with you
Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart
For you are not alone

Oh whisper three words and I'll come runnin'
And I, and girl you know that I'll be there, I'll be there

You are not alone, for I am here with you
Though you're far away, I am here to stay
You are not alone, for I am here with you
Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart

You are not alone, for I am here with you
(You are not alone)
(I am here with you)
Though you're far away, I am here to stay
(Though you're far away)
(You and me)
For you are not alone, for I am here with you
(You are always in my heart)
Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart

THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE

HABIT 1: Be Proactive (The Habit Of Personal Vision)

Be Proactive means that as human beings, we are responsible for our own live. Our basic nature is to act and be acted upon. It’s instructive to break the word responsibility into parts: ‘response’,’ability’, the ability to choose your response. Hightly proactive people recognise that responsibility. They do no blame circumstance, condition, or conditioning for their behaviour.

HABIT 2: Begin With The End In Mind (The Habit of Personal Leadership)

Begin With The End In Mind means to begin each day or task with the clear understanding or your desired direction and destination. By keeping that end in mind, you can make certain that whatever you do any particular day does not violet the criteria you have defined as supremely important, and that each day of your life contributes in a meaningful way to the vision you have of your life as a whole.

HABIT 3: Put First Thing First (The Habit of Personal Management)

What are first things? First thing are those thing that you, personally, find most worth doing. They move you on in the right direction and help you achieve the purpose expressed in your mission statement.

Basically, we spend our time in one of four ways, as illustrated in the Time Management Matrix. This matrix defines activities as ‘Urgent’ or ‘Not Urgent’ and ‘Important’ or ‘Not Important’.

Most people discover that they spend far too much time responding to the urgent crises of the Quadrants I and III, escaping occasionally for survival to the not urgent, unimportant time wasters of Qudrant IV.

Most time management tools focus on prioritising and accomplishing Quadrant I and III ‘urgent’ activities. But research indicate that truly effective people focus on Quadrant II.

HABIT 4: Think Win-win (The Habit of Interpersonal Leadership)

Win – win is based on the paradigm that they is plenty for everybody, that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of the success of others.

Win – win sees life as a coorperative, not a competetive arena. Win – win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all mutually beneficial and satisfying.

In Win – Win Agreement, the following 5 elements are made explicit:

  1. Desired Results (not methods) identify what is to be done and when.
  2. Guidelines specify the parameters (principles, policies, etc.) within which results are to be accomplished.
  3. Resoucers identify the human, financial, technical, or organisational support available to help accomplish the results.
  4. Accountability sets up the standards of performance and the time of evalution.
  5. Consequences specify – good and bad, natural and logical – what does and will happen as a result of achieving or not achieving desired results.

HABIT 5: Seek First To understand Then To Be Understood (The Habit of Communication)

An effective communicator will first seek to understand another person’s view before seeking to be understood. Until people feel properly diagnosed, they will not be open to prescriptions.

We typically seek first to be understood. Most people do not listen with to intent to understand; they listen with the intent to understand; they listen to the intent to reply.

In contrast, ‘Empathic Listening’ gets inside another person’s frame of reference. You lokk out through it, you see the world the way he or she sees it, you understand he or she feels. This does not mean that you agree necessarily, simply that you understand his or her point of view.

HABIT 6: Synergism (The Habit of Creative Coorperation)

Synergism is everywhere in nature. The intermingled roots of two plants growing closely together improve the quality of the soil. Two pieces of wood bonded together hold much more than the total of the weight held by each separetly. The whole is greater then the sum of its parts.

Synergism lets us discover, jointly, things that we are much less likely to discover by ourselves. It occurs when minds stimulate each other, ideas call forth idea. The person who is truly effective has he humility and reverence to recognise his or her own perceptual limitations and to appriciate the rich resources available through in teraction with the hearts and mind of human beings.

HABIT 7: Sharpen The Saw (The Habit of Self-Renewal)

Habit 7 is the habit that makes all the others possible. As the farmer in the fable learned from sad experience, success has two sides, the goose, whichrepresents production capability, and the golden egg, the production of desired results.

It’s wise to keep both sides in balance. Yet when people get busy producing, or sawing, they seldom take time to sharpen the saw because maintenance selodm pays dramatic, immediate dividends.

Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have: YOU. It means having a balanced, systematic programmed for self-renewal in the four areas of our lives: physical, social/ emotional, mental, and spiritual. Without this dicipline, the body becomes weak, the mind mechanical, the emotion raw, the spirit insensite, and the person selfish.

A minimum of one hour day in renewal of the physical, spiritual, and mental dimension is the key to the development of the 7 habits, and it’s completely within our control. Renewal is the principle and the process that empowers us to move in an upward spiral of growth and change, of continuous improvement.

Don't Wanna See No Blood, Don't Be A Macho Man
You Wanna Be Tough, Better Do What You Can
So Beat It, But You Wanna Be Bad

Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It, Beat It
No One Wants To Be Defeated
